Chrismon Ornament Ministry Update
Earlier this year, Faith began organizing a Chrismon Ornament Ministry. We are excited to report that we have made over 20 ornaments so far with the generous donations we have received, and we hope to make even more! Our hope is to add to Faith’s Christmas tree for years to come.
In October, we will have a wreath in the Narthex that will display some of the ornaments we have made so far. We will also be taking donations to buy supplies for additional ornaments. Donations can be given in remembrance of a loved one as well. If you would like to make a donation, please put a separate donation (in addition to your regular offerings) in the offering plate with a notation of “Chrismons” in the memo line of your check or in an envelope marked “Chrismons.” Please note that any donations for the Chrismons should be made separately from your regular donation to the church. If you want to make a donation in remembrance of someone please add that information as a note as well. We would like any gift you can give by October 31, 2020. Any amount is greatly appreciated!
In case you need don’t know what Chrismons are, they are Christmas tree ornaments with Christian symbols. The word, Chrismon, is a combination of Christ and monogram (meaning symbol). These symbols of Christ on a Christmas tree help Christians to remember that Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’s Birth and a look into His Life, and the ultimate gift – His death and Resurrection. The story of Jesus is explained through the ornaments in traditional colors of white and gold. White is the liturgical (or Church) color for Christmas and symbolizes that Jesus was pure and perfect. Gold symbolizes His Majesty and Glory.
If you would like to help make them, or if you have any questions, please contact the church office to get in touch with Kim Herndon. No particular artistic skill is needed to make Chrismons, although you will need to work carefully. Please note that all Chrismon ornaments will become property of Faith Lutheran Church for everyone to enjoy for years to come!
