“How awesome is this place!
This is none other than the house of God,
and this is the gate of heaven.”
(Genesis 28:17)
Wow! To be in Your house, O God, to be fed with Your word, and to be numbered among Your saints, is more awesome than words can express. Forgive my lackluster prayers and praises, and turn them into doxologies that rise from earth to heaven and are echoed by saints and angels across both. Amen.
For nation will rise against nation,
and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be earthquakes in various places;
there will be famines.
These are but the beginnings of the birth pains.
(Mark 13:8)
By the daily headlines, remind me, Lord Jesus, that I live in the last times. Upheavals in both the natural world and the political world are signs of Your imminent return. Keep me active in discipleship, living in these times in such ways that before You come again my neighbors see You through me. Amen.
God gave us a spirit not of fear
but of power and love and self-control.
(1 Timothy 1:7)
Gift-giving God, You intend that Your gifts be used, exercised, and shared rather than stuck away in a drawer or placed on a shelf as a mere ornament. Free me from all fear about using for the blessing of others the power and love and self-control You have given me. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
When iniquities press against me,
You atone for our transgressions.
(Psalm 65:3)
How good You are, Lord Jesus! When shame attacks me and despair overpowers me, You bring me the peace and comfort of forgiveness. Bless me with contrition that rightly acknowledges guilt yet boldly looks in trust to You for the pardon that opens heaven to sinners. Amen.
Behold, now is the favorable time;
behold, now is the day of salvation.
(2 Corinthians 6:2b)
Holy Father, it’s hard to believe that this is the favorable time. So much is wrong in the world, and, in my sinfulness, I contribute to it. Lead me constantly to Your Son’s death and resurrection that I see today as the day of salvation and live in the certainty of Your blessings. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Be sure your sin will find you out.
(Numbers 32:23b)
My “private” life is not hidden from You, O Lord; nothing I do “in secret” is unknown to You. Cleanse my inner life by the blood of Your Son Jesus so that my outer life may be a wholesome witness to Him for both my own blessing and the blessing of those around me. Amen.
“Just so, I tell you,
there is joy before the angels of God
over one sinner who repents.”
(Luke 15:10)
Instead of praying for Your vengeance against enemies, O Lord Jesus Christ, prompt me to pray for their repentance and conversion. You once blasted into my sinful heart by Your powerful word and led me out of darkness into light. As You do the same for others, fill my spirit with exuberant joy. Amen.
