I bless the LORD
Who gives me counsel;
in the night also
my heart instructs me.
I have set the LORD
always before me;
because He is at my right hand,
I shall not be shaken.
(Psalm 16:6-7)
For the wise guidance of Your holy word, I praise You, O Lord. Your truth instructs me, even when it confounds me. Lead me daily into deeper spiritual understanding that I may live a life of ever-increasing faith that looks to Jesus and finds all confidence and comfort in Him. Amen.
Are not five sparrows
sold for two pennies?
And not one of them
is forgotten before God.
Why, even the hairs of your
head are all numbered.
Fear not;
you are of more value
than many sparrows.
(Luke 12:6-7)
While it is true that I need You to humble me, heavenly Father, in my self-important moments, it is also true that I need You to encourage me through seasons of fear and depression when I doubt my worth and find no joy in life. Remind me of the high value You placed on me when You sent Jesus to die and rise so that I may dwell eternally with You. Amen.
The eternal God is your dwelling place,
and underneath are the everlasting arms.
(Deuteronomy 33:27a)
God of time and eternity, in Your arms I am safe. Nothing from my past, present, or future can deny to me the place in heaven Your Son Jesus is preparing for me. As He stretched out His arms on the cross to carry the sin of the world, grant that I also stretch out my arms to bless and serve others in His name. Amen.
For I consider that the sufferings
of this present time
are not worth comparing
with the glory that is
to be revealed to us.
(Romans 8:18)
Wow! The coming glory must be glorious indeed if it surpasses the combined agonies of pandemic, poverty, war, civil unrest, fire, hurricane, and all other symptoms of sin. Spirit of God, impress on my soul the truth that the reward of faith is always greater than the consequences of wickedness, and by it embolden me to live hopefully, even in the face of sufferings; through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
And my God will supply
every need of yours
according to His riches in glory
in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 4:19)
As in Christ Jesus You daily supply all that I need, blessed Father, through me funnel Your supply of blessings to others—Your supply of courage to the fearful, of comfort to the sorrowing, of food to the hungry, of hope to the desperate, and of pardon to the guilty—all that they may see Jesus and by faith in Him receive the riches of eternal life in heaven. Amen.
The LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your days of mourning shall be ended.
(Isaiah 60:20b)
Grief is blinding, heavenly Father, and Satan would use it to extinguish Christian faith. Shine into my darkness, I pray, with Your promise that days of mourning will end. However dimly at this moment, help me see beyond death’s pall the breaking brightness of Easter dawn. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
The apostles returned to Jesus
and told Him all that
they had done and taught.
And He said to them,
“Come away by yourselves
to a desolate place and rest a while.”
(Mark 6:30-31a)
You know all things, Lord Jesus, even my need for rest. Forgive the pride in me that will not admit weakness and weariness. Away from busy cares and distractions that sap my energies, lead me to quiet places to refresh my soul by Your loving companionship. Amen.
